As warmer weather slowly approaches, I begin to have the itch to get in my garden. And being that I will be starting some of my seeds indoors soon, I thought I would share with you something that I find super useful. Now, you might be thinking that I am going to rave about some fancy shovel, or special seed-planter…..but my favorite gardening tool is “Clyde’s Garden Planner.” It is a simple, easy to use chart recommending the dates that are appropriate to start seeds indoors, when to plant certain things in your garden, expected harvest dates, the last outdoor planting dates for the fall, and average frost dates. I find this little thing to be so very handy! I found it especially useful when we began starting our own tomatoes and peppers from seed. It was so nice to have a quick reference guide for planting dates instead of having to look up each and every one. It is also an inexpensive investment for how helpful it is. The last time I looked it was about $5.00 – not bad to save me headaches during the planting season! So I hope this little tidbit may make the upcoming spring a little simpler for you.
And I was excited the other day when our seeds arrived from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. There is always something so promising and inspiring about unopened seed packets. I am really looking forward to gardening again this year. We are going to be growing squash for the first time. It should be interesting to see how it goes. Happy Planting Season to you!
